President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and First Lady Madam Fathimath Ibrahim has this evening met with the Maldivians residing in Colombo, as part of their state visit to Sri Lanka.
Speaking at the meeting, President Yameen said that we must find ways to move forward the developmental projects planned by the Government, regardless of our political differences.
In his speech, the President noted that while the Maldives has limited natural resources the country is over-dependent on the tourism sector. He therefore, urged for the support and cooperation of the people and political leaders in the implementation of the development projects.
He said that his top most priority was to work for the betterment and welfare of the Maldivian people.
He noted that the Maldives was a homogenous society and that the people have realized the benefits of peaceful and harmonious society. Continuing in this regard, President Yameen noted that during times of peace, we experience a reduction in crime rates and violation of fundamental rights of the people.
The president said the restoration of peace and stability in the country has boosted investor confidence in Maldives and that it has increased number of investors showing interest in the Maldives.
Member of Parliament and Leader of Jumhooree Party Qasim Ibrahim, and Member of Parliament and Leader of Maldives Development Alliance Ahmed Siyam Mohamed also spoke to the gathering this evening.
