Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has said that the successive editions of the India-Maldives Friendship Week over the years, have played a crucial role in bringing the two countries and peoples closer together. The Vice President made this remark while speaking at the inauguration of the India-Maldives Friendship Week “Dosti-Ekuverikan”, held last evening at Traders Hotel.
Highlighting the events lined up for the coming week, the Vice President applauded the High Commissioner and his team for putting together the dynamic and colorful array of events.
The Vice President underlined that the year 2015 would celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the establishment of diplomatic relations with India. He said that the milestone of fifty years of diplomatic ties was an auspicious occasion for a renewal of our collective resolve to keep advancing Indo-Maldives ties in the time ahead.
“This Government will safeguard the existing strong relations with India, and work to take relations to new heights. We will ensure this through regional and international collaboration, ensuring the development of both our countries”, said the Vice President.
