Ambassador of Iraq to the Maldives, Mr Kahtan Taha Khalaf has paid a courtesy call on President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. The meeting was held this morning at the President’s Office.
At the meeting, President Yameen and Ambassador Khalaf discussed the close bilateral relations that exist between the two countries. They further explored possibilities of strengthening these ties, especially in the areas of fisheries, tourism and oil trade.
Highlighting that this year marks the 43rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Iraq, President Yameen said that the Maldives highly values the close brotherly relations with Iraq.
Continuing in this regard, President underlined the priority accorded by his government to strengthen relations with Arab countries.
Ambassador Khalaf congratulated President Yameen on his victory in the presidential elections. He also applauded the Government for it’s successful efforts to restore peace and stability in the country.
President Yameen was joined at the call by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Dunya Maumoon, Minister at the President’s Office Hon. Abdulla Ameen, and the Foreign Secretary, Mr. Ali Naseer Mohamed.
