Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has this morning met with the Former Prime Minister of Malaysia and presented a letter on behalf of President Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
During the meeting, President Maumoon conveyed to Prime Minister Mahathir, the greetings and good wishes from President Yameen.
President Maumoon expressed his gratitude for the contributions made, and for the support received during the Prime Minister’s tenure, towards strengthening of bilateral relations between the Maldives and Malaysia. The President also conveyed the Government’s hope to further enhance the cooperation between the two countries.
President Maumoon reflected on the events that ensued in the Maldives’ political arena during the past 5 years. Continuing in this regard, President Maumoon noted the delicate situation of the country’s economy and briefed the Prime Minister on the initiatives being undertaken by the Government to curb the situation.
Dr. Mahathir congratulated president Yameen on his election victory. He further expressed his gratitude to the Former President for the close cooperation and friendship with Malaysia during his leadership.
