Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed as appealed for greater cooperation and support by the Police in providing social security to the people. The VP made this appeal while speaking at the retirement function of Police Commissioner Abdulla Riyaz.
Noting that there was a great public concern over the deterioration of public safety and security, the Vice President said establishing a safe and friendly environment was a top priority.
In his speech, the Vice President also said the aim of the Maldives Police Service must be to achieve excellent standards of fairness and equality.
Speaking on the service of Commissioner Riyaz, the Vice President said the Commissioner had rendered invaluable services to the country in upholding the rule of law, during very difficult times. The Vice President also noted the leadership and professionalism shown by Commissioner Riyaz during the investigation of the murder of MP Dr. Afrasheem Ali.
