At a courtesy call on Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed this morning, Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, His Excellency Yu Hongyao has said that the Chinese Government would provide assistance to restore the damages caused by the recent fire incident at Dhiffushi School.
Underscoring the special relations the Maldives enjoys with China, Vice President Jameel noted the on-going Chinese aided infrastructural development projects in the Maldives. In this regard, he expressed appreciation to the Chinese Government for the assistance and the cooperation the Government of Maldives continues to receive from the Government of China.
Continuing in this regard, Vice president expressed hopes for further strengthening the social, cultural and people-to-people ties between the two countries. In this regard, he explored the possibilities of increasing Chinese assistance in alleviating environmental challenges, providing clean drinking water and upgrading health services in the islands.
Underlining that the new Government has restored stability and peace in the country, Ambassador Yu said that as a result, Chinese investors has regained their confidence in investing in the Maldives.
At the meeting, Vice President Jameel expressed gratitude to the Ambassador for the cooperation and close friendship with the Maldives during his tenure.
Vice President Jameel was joined at the call by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Dunya Maumoon, Minister at the President’s Office, Hon. Mohamed Hussain Shareef, and Mr. Hassan Shifau, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ambassador Yu was joined at the call by senior officials at Embassy of China in the Maldives.
