SAARC Secretary General felicitates President Yameen on his assumption of presidential office

SAARC Secretary General, Mr. Ahmed Saleem has sent a congratulatory message to the new President of Maldives, His Excellency Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, on his assumption of presidential office.

In the message, the Secretary General said that President Yameen’s election was testimony to the trust and confidence that the people of the Maldives reposed in his leadership.

Highlighting that President Yameen has also assumed the role of chairperson of SAARC, by virtue of his election as the President of Maldives, the Secretary General expressed his confidence in receiving the continued support and cooperation in revitalizing the organization.

In his reply to Secretary General Saleem’s congratulatory message, President Yameen assured the SAARC Heads of Governments that the Maldives would always work closely with Heads of Government to enhance the longstanding close friendly ties and to strengthen sustainable development.
