President Dr Mohamed Waheed has today met with the members of the Elections Commission, and representatives from the political parties contesting in the presidential elections.

At the meeting, the President pointed out that the three presidential candidates have agreed to hold elections on Saturday, November 9, and conveyed his appreciation. He underlined the possibility of the country facing a constitutional crisis in the case of inability to elect a president by November 11. The President further said that all the three candidates have agreed to hold the second round of voting on November 10 or 11 if required.

In this regard, the President requested members of the Elections Commission to come to a decision on the matter. He also assured of the government’s full cooperation throughout the electoral process.

At the meeting, the President expressed hopes for a smooth and peaceful election, and hopes for the political situation in the country to stabilize soon.
