While addressing the people of Maalhendhoo island of South Miladhummadulu Atoll, President Dr Mohamed Waheed has said the main purpose of the government was to serve its citizens. The President is currently on a tour of some islands in the atoll.
Highlighting the challenges faced by the government at the time of his assumption of office, President Waheed underlined the extensive damages caused to government property.
In his speech, President also spoke of the difficulties faced by his administration in providing the services required by the people, due to the huge public debts of the previous government. Speaking in this regard, the President noted that a big percentage of the country’s debt has now been settled.
