President Dr Mohamed Waheed attended a function held to mark the 123rd anniversary of Maldives Customs Service. The function was held last evening at Dharumavantha School.
Speaking at the function, President Waheed deliberated the institutional reforms currently being undertaken by the Maldives Customs Service. In this regard, he underlined significant changes that have been implemented under the Customs Act. The President further expressed satisfaction over the job promotion of approximately 400 employees under the new customs framework.
In his speech, President remarked on the recent government directive to transfer the Maldives Customs Service to the Authority of Ministry of Home Affairs. Continuing in this regard, president Waheed emphasised the critical need for the Maldives Customs Service, Immigration Department and the Maldives Police Service to work closely together to monitor the ports of entry to the Maldives.
At last evening’s function, President Waheed launched the trade facilitation package of the Maldives Customs Service.
