United Nation’s Population Fund’s (UNFPA) Country Director Ms Lene Christiansen today met with President Dr Mohamed Waheed. The meeting was held this morning at the President’s Office.
Speaking at the meeting, the President thanked Ms Christiansen for her services and support to the Maldives.
He also briefed Ms Christiansen on the progress made and challenges towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals – specifically MDGs related to gender issues. President Waheed and Ms Christiansen also explored ways the UNFPA could further assist the Maldives in those areas.
Ms Christiansen assured the President of UNFPA’s continued support and cooperation to the Maldives. She also expressed pleasure that the Maldives now has a separate Ministry dedicated to gender and human right.
