President Dr Mohamed Waheed has this evening inaugurated higher secondary education at the Seenu Atoll School.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President highlighted the role of children in attaining our national development goals. He said the country’s most important treasure was its children.
In his speech President Waheed said that the purpose of introducing higher secondary education was to provide a higher level of education for students, and to ensure that all students complete an education at least up to A ‘level standards.
Underlining that the people of Addu City accorded high importance to education, the President said that the standard of schools in the city was notable at a national level.
The President noted that the number of students able to secure placement for A’ levels was considerably low when compared with the number of students sitting the O’ level exams. He, therefore, called for greater efforts to increase this number. He said that it was important to provide the youths with different educational qualifications, the opportunity to work in different fields. The President also said that more job opportunities should be made available to those who complete their higher secondary education in the islands.
Stating that education was the basis of development, the President said that the most important step towards achieving development goals was to develope the country’s human resources. Speaking in this regard, the President said that it meant for every child to be able to attain their maximum capacity and naturally acquired skills.
