President Dr Mohamed Waheed has today laid foundation of 60 housing units to be constructed in Nolhivaranfaru Island. The President visited the island today, as part of his current tour of some islands in the South Thiladhummathi Atoll.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Waheed highlighted that Nolhivaranfaru was one of the islands allocated for resettlement, under the population consolidation programme. The President further underlined that people from three islands have already been relocated to the island.
Noting that 52 of those families were living in hardship without proper housing, President Waheed said that priority would be given to provide housing units for those families.
Speaking to the people, President Waheed underscored the importance of fostering good relationships between the people of Nolhivaranfaru and the relocated population. He urged the people to put aside the political differences and called to put forward a united front for the development of the island.
In his speech, the President underlined the different developmental projects of the island currently underway, and those that were planned for the future.
