President Nasheed has announced that the government would inject an extra Rf 1 billion to the salary budget of government employees. He also has announced that the official working hours of government offices will be from 8am to 12 am and from 1pm to 4pm. The announcements were made today at a function held at the President’s Office to provide details on the changes to the pay structure and official working hours.

The changes would be implemented starting from 1 February 2009.

Speaking in this regard, the President said that many of the companies with government shares, that were run with a deficit, are now been privatised. Further, he said that a key objective of the civil service was implementing government policies. He noted the support and cooperation provided by the Civil Service Commission and civil service employees to the government.
