Speaking at Hanseo University of South Korea, President Mohamed Nasheed has said that no attempt by climate deniers had altered the evidence or knowledge of climate change.

Continuing in this regard, President Nasheed called on climate deniers to visit the Maldives and to witness for themselves the effects of climate change. He said that in the Maldives climate change was not an abstract or a distant phenomenon. He added, while climate deniers were relentlessly working to cloud the evidence and science about climate change, Maldivians were experiencing the impact of climate change everyday.

In his lecture at Hanseo University this afternoon, the President reiterated his calls to ignore the deniers and continue the fight for the survival of the planet.

President Nasheed highlighted the importance of bridging the divide between the developed and developing world in order to come up with a stronger climatic agreement in the next UN climate talks.

President Nasheed also elaborated on the challenges faced by the Maldives as a result of climate change and the government’s plan to make Maldives the first carbon neutral country in the world.

The President spoke at Hanseo University this afternoon, as part of his visit to South Korea to participate in the Business for Environment Global Summit being held in Seoul. He will conclude his visit to South Korea today.
