The government of Maldives has selected a contractor for the development of Shaviyani Funadhoo Airport. The decision was made following President Dr Mohamed Waheed’s speech to the people of the island, in which he highlighted the importance of an airport in Funadhoo.
The President visited the island as part of his March 2012 tour of some islands in the North Miladhummadulu Atoll. In his speech to the people of Funadhoo, the President assured of the government’s commitment to realise the people’s aspirations.
The Shaviyani Funadhoo Airport will be built in Farukolhu Island of the same atoll. The project has already been through bidding.
The airport project will broaden the scope for development of tourism in the Miladhummadulu Atoll region.
