President Dr Mohamed Waheed has today visited Imaduddin School to observe the situation of the school following its closure due to the heavy smoke pollution from the nearby garbage collection area.
During the visit, President met with the senior officials of the school and inquired about the difficulties faced due to smoke from the garbage collection area. In his meeting with the school board, President discussed measures that could be taken to resolve the situation.
Addressing the media during the visit, President noted that the continuous exposure of children to smoke from the garbage area was a public health hazard. Emphasizing on the collaborative endeavour of the government and the city council to resolve the issue, President Waheed said that it had been decided to assign the project to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
President announced the government decision to relocate the garbage dumping area to a different location and to build an educational facility in the area.
