President Dr Mohamed Waheed has said that the biggest challenges faced by small populations should be looked into at a national level. The President made this remark while addressing the people of Kon’dey, as part of his current tour of some islands in the North Huvadhu Atoll.

Noting the high number of islands with small populations, the President said that it should be a priority to provide the basic public services in those islands. He said that development does not only depend on the growth of the population, or the modern facilities available in the island; however, development is also the opportunity to live a happier and easier life.

In his speech, President Waheed spoke on the importance of providing good education and healthy lifestyle for our children. He said that providing different opportunities in all areas as they grow up, was the foundation to be laid for the future.

Highlighting the importance of good education, President said that it was important to determine the quality of education being provided to our young children. Speaking in this regard, the President spoke on the changes that needed to be brought to the country’s education policies, and said that the Ministry of Education was working on it.
