Vice President Mohamed Waheed Deen has said that although different people have different experiences and opinions, a true democracy is based on listening to its people and sharing the truth and reality in a transparent way. He made this statement while speaking at the inauguration of the first annual meeting of the Asia Regional Association of the Public Accounts Committee (ARAPAC).
The Vice President noted that parliament members were representatives of people, and therefore, should not forget the desires, concerns, or the needs of the people being represented.
“Building the nation would be an easy partnership when the parliamentarians cooperate with the constitutionally elected government, with sincerity, honesty, and with full dedication”, said the Vice President.
At the ceremony, the Vice President underlined that the forum would facilitate parliamentarians and the parliament of Maldives to graduate to another level, where discussions would be held in regard to eliminate corruption, and how true a person could spend the people’s money.
The Vice President mentioned that sharing experiences with the Public Accounts Committee would help give recommendations to the government, regarding the steps to be taken to reduce budget deficit in the long run.
