President Dr. Mohamed Waheed has urged Maldivian media to function with a view to advancing the cause of national unity and promoting the well-rounded development of the State. He made this request while exchanging his views on the importance of national unity to a country’s development at a special interview, aired by “Dhi TV” following the Evening News at eight.

In his interview, President Waheed suggested that the subjective nature of one’s perception of reality might, on occasion, cause them to disregard the obvious facts in any given matter. Therefore, he expressed the possibility of there being people who are staunch holders of their own biased perceptions, unwilling to succumb to the acceptance of truth. On this note, President offered an in-depth explanation of the circumstances under which CoNI was established to investigate the events which transpired on the 7th of February 2012.

When questioned about his sentiments upon receiving CoNI’s report, President Waheed related his great delight in discovering the outcome of the investigation and added that this was an unprecedented achievement in the history of Maldives.

In response to whether or not he would run for presidency in 2013, President confirmed that he was ready to work to the best of his leadership capacity in the interests of his people and that the ultimate decision will be taken as beneficial to the nation.
