President Dr Mohamed Waheed has abolished the 7 National Offices and the National Office Units established in the 7 regions of the Maldives.
The National Offices were abolished to facilitate the decentralisation of islands and atolls, as stated in the Chapter 8 of the Constitution and the Decentralisation Act.
Following the abolishment of National Offices, the functions of the Offices would be transferred to the local councils under agreements with the councils.
