President Dr Mohamed Waheed has said that the current political conflicts have enabled the spread of false information, causing damage to the economy. The President made this statement while addressing the people of Laamu Gan this afternoon.
He said such drastic actions taken for the mere purpose of protecting the interests of certain individuals, or for the benefit of a minority would not only harm the government, but also cause a lasting impact on the whole community.
Noting that the Maldives was now a democratic nation, President Waheed assured that his administration would listen to all the people. He also said that the government would allow freedom of expression, within the laws and regulations of the country. The President stressed that it was the government’s duty to prevent any sort of civil disorder in the country
