President Mohamed Nasheed has this afternoon, met with President Mahinda Rajapaksa of Sri Lanka.
At the meeting held at the Addu City State House, discussions were held on Sri Lanka implementing renewable energy investment projects in the Maldives.
Underlining the long established close relations between the two countries, President Rajapaksa noted that one reason for the strong ties is the trade link between Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
President Nasheed highlighted the history of Addu, and spoke on the royal air force base established in Addu by the British. President Nasheed expressed his gratitude to the Sri Lankan government for their continued assistance to the development of the Maldives, and noted the flying school instituted in Addu by a Sri Lankan company.
