President Mohamed Nasheed has today met with the Indian Minister of External Affairs S.M. Krishna.
At the meeting held today at the President’s Office, discussions were mainly focused on strengthening bilateral relations through Public Private Partnerships (PPP) and promoting energy conservation and energy efficiency issues to achieve carbon neutrality.
The President expressed his confidence in further fortifying regional ties and the overall strengthening of SAARC to promote the goal of climate protection. In addition, the President highlighted on changes and progress in the country’s political climate and advancements made on consolidating democracy in the Maldives.
At the meeting, Minister Krishna congratulated the President and his leadership in creating opportunities for the Maldives to shine in the international arena.
Following the meeting, a handover and exchange ceremony was carried out, where the Indian Minister of External Affairs handed over US $ 5 Million to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Naseem, as assistance for this year’s SAARC Summit to be held in the Maldives.
An exchange of agreements was also made for handing over the land for the Chancery and Embassy Residence of India to be established in Male’.This was then followed by the exchange of agreements for the establishment of a multi-disciplinary university, wellness centre and medical resort in the Maldives, to be constructed by Universal Empire Infrastructures Ltd of India.
