The cabinet has decided to facilitate the organization and hosting of international sports events in the Maldives, after deliberating on a paper presented by the Ministry of Human Resources, Youth and Sports, at the cabinet meeting today.

Members discussed on the importance of holding events such as South Asian Federation Games (SAF Games), Indian Ocean Island Games and other invitational games in the Maldives. They also agreed that with sufficient assistance, athletics and swimming events could be held at a regional and international level.

At today’s cabinet meeting, members decided to institute an association for immigration authorities among SAARC countries. This association would allow easier sharing of intelligence information and strengthen immigration management in SAARC member countries. It would also aid in the training of immigration personnel.

Members also discussed on establishing a feasible, advanced security system in the Maldives, with the assistance from SAARC countries with expert immigration management systems.
