President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has inspected the progress of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment project.

Upon arrival at the site, the President was received by Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, Dr Abdulla Muththalib, and the Managing Director of the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Deputy Commissioner of Police (Retd.) Ahmed Saudee.

During the visit, the President reviewed the progress of Phase One of the project – particularly segments two through five – which span from Izzudheen Jetty to the Henveiru Ferry Terminal.

The redevelopment project includes resurfacing Boduthakurufaanu Magu with asphalt and expanding sections of the road. The first phase involved land reclamation between the Local Market area and the Izzudheen Jetty near Republic Square to facilitate four-lanes and the road. This segment was completed and opened in December 2025. The second segment, covering the southern side of the road from the Izzudheen Jetty to the Fish Market, was completed and opened for the public in February 2026.

The project, awarded to MTCC on 9 April 2025, aims to transform Boduthakurufaanu Magu into a modern urban corridor. Upon completion, the road will feature an upgraded drainage system and widened lanes to help ease traffic congestion and improve mobility for both motorists and pedestrians.
