Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef has described the relocation of domestic operations to the more spacious and modern Terminal 2 at Velana International Airport as a significant enhancement in service delivery.

He made these remarks at a ceremony held this evening to mark the commencement of domestic operations at the new terminal.

The Vice President noted that, following the recent opening of the new international terminal, the swift completion of the upgraded domestic terminal marks an important milestone in the airport's development. He stated that the improved facility would deliver tangible benefits for both Maldivian citizens and the national economy.

The Vice President observed that the previous domestic terminal, which serves as a key gateway for residents and tourists travelling across the country, had long required upgrading. He noted that the limitations of the former facility had posed challenges for users and constrained the full economic potential of domestic aviation services.

He further emphasised that the inauguration of Terminal 2 reflects the priority accorded by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu since the outset of his Administration to addressing infrastructure challenges through timely and comprehensive solutions. The new terminal, he stated, provides a more spacious and comfortable environment with enhanced service standards compared to the previous facility. He added that these developments reflect President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's economic vision and policy direction, and the sustained focus on resolving key challenges faced by citizens.

He also commended the management and staff of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) for their dedicated efforts in completing the renovation and operational transition within a short timeframe, and expressed confidence that the new terminal would enhance passenger convenience and elevate the standard of domestic travel services.
