President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that reform begins with the individual, noting that anyone wishing to bring about positive change, whether to their family, society, or the nation, must first embody that change themselves.

In his address marking the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan 1447 AH, the President extended his sincere greetings and well wishes to all Maldivian citizens and the wider Islamic Ummah.

The President highlighted that Almighty Allah ordained fasting to nurture Taqwa, foster self-discipline, shield one from vice, and keep one steadfast on the righteous path of good deeds.

He further noted that as this blessed season of goodwill arrives, there are numerous positive attributes — both religious and cultural — that he aspires to see cultivated within society.

Reflecting on the values expected during Ramadan, the President expressed his desire to see a community that diligently observes the five daily prayers. He also emphasised the need for a society that safeguards the dignity of children and shows due respect to the elderly.

Furthermore, the President underscored his vision for a society free from substance abuse and unhealthy habits. He called for a community that fully honours the tenets of Islam in all matters, whilst upholding the strong Islamic culture and civilised traditions unique to the Maldives.

He stated that a society possessing these qualities is essential for the peace of the nation and the salvation of Maldivians in both this world and the hereafter. This, he noted, is the path to becoming a virtuous, well-mannered people who progress with the times and earn praise from the global community.

Since Ramadan imparts the highest lessons in morality, the President encouraged citizens to manage their time effectively for worship, attain piety through Dhikr, and discipline their hearts, souls, and bodies to engage in benevolent acts.

In conclusion, the President urged citizens to make this blessed Ramadan a month of self-discipline within religious and national boundaries — beginning good deeds with oneself and bringing about positive change through personal transformation.

In an X post welcoming the holy month, the President expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for the blessing of witnessing another Ramadan. He prayed for it to be a prosperous month for every Maldivian citizen, and a time of good fortune and victory for the nation.

Similarly, in her X post marking the occasion, First Lady Sajidha Mohamed prayed that this blessed Ramadan would be a month in which good deeds are accepted and all remain encompassed by Allah's mercy.
