First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has stated that the work carried out by mothers at home allows children to mirror and observe their interests, fostering skills that can shape their future professional development.
She made these remarks as the Guest of Honour at the certificate awarding ceremony of the Beginners’ Electrician Course for Women, conducted by the State Electric Company Limited (STELCO).
The primary objective of this course, designed specifically for women, is to enable them to resolve domestic electrical issues independently. Speaking on this, the First Lady highlighted that women shoulder significant responsibilities not only in social and professional settings but also within the home, and that equipping them with technical expertise can bring about substantial positive change.
Although this is a foundational course, the First Lady emphasised that household work often inspires children, and initiatives such as this contribute to societal advancement while enhancing women’s skills, confidence, and productivity.
Highlighting the importance of possessing basic knowledge in any service sector, she noted that participants had been instructed on the safe and efficient use of electricity at home, as well as methods for energy conservation.
A total of 116 women completed the course across seven batches. At the ceremony, certificates were awarded to 81 participants, with the First Lady presenting certificates to 30 graduates.
The ceremony was attended by STELCO Managing Director Ahmed Shamah Rasheed and other senior officials.
