President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has assured residents of Kolhumadulu Dhiyamigili of the timely completion of key infrastructure development projects and the subsequent benefits to the community. He made the remarks while addressing the Dhiyamigili community, as part of his ongoing tour of four atolls.
The President underscored three major projects designated for the island’s development. Of these, the Dhiyamigili–Madifushi–Ufuriyaa Causeway project and the road development project were formalised through agreements during today’s community meeting.
The President affirmed that the Dhiyamigili–Madifushi–Ufuriyaa Causeway project is scheduled for completion within 18 months, while road development works are expected to commence upon the completion of the water network project within six months. He emphasised that both initiatives will make a substantial contribution to the advancement of the community.
The third project highlighted was the school extension project, which had come to a standstill. The President assured that construction works are now ready to recommence, with the building expected to be fully commissioned in time for the commencement of the 2026 academic year. He further indicated that physical works for a multipurpose hall are scheduled to commence before the end of the year.
The President affirmed that the issue of coastal erosion will be addressed and confirmed that work will commence this year to secure the necessary resources to upgrade the Health Centre into a fully operational 24-hour facility, with completion scheduled for 2026. He also outlined plans to enhance existing sports grounds, develop the Fitness and Recreation Centre, and establish a volleyball court.
Highlighting recent enhancements in policing, the President announced that a dedicated police building will be constructed on Dhiyamigili. He further confirmed that, as of this afternoon, police services have been established across all inhabited islands of Kolhumadulu.
The President also assured that a Fire Station under the Maldives National Defence Force will be established on the island. Additionally, he confirmed that the development of the Island Council Secretariat is scheduled for inclusion in the 2026 budget.
