President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that 15 hectares of land will be reclaimed for M. Naalaafushi – an area larger than the island’s current landmass.

He made the announcement while addressing the Naalaafushi community during his ongoing tour of inhabited islands across four atolls.

The President explained that land reclamation, harbour expansion, and causeway development will be undertaken by a single contractor, with physical works scheduled to commence in December this year.

He further outlined forthcoming developments on the island, noting that construction of the new school will be completed by the next academic year, while expansion of the health centre’s services and the building of a futsal court are expected to begin later this year.

The President assured residents that all projects would be delivered to the highest standards of quality and excellence.

During the meeting, Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure and the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) signed an agreement for the integrated land reclamation and harbour development project.

Several other development initiatives were also launched today, with groundbreaking ceremonies held for the Fitness and Recreation Centre, the Police Post, and the new Council Secretariat.
