President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has pledged the successful completion of ongoing development projects in Dharan’boodhoo, assuring residents that the island’s progress will be secured. He made the remarks while addressing the community during his ongoing tour of the atoll.
The President reflected on the projects currently underway and those planned for the island. He noted that work on the Health Centre commenced today, and upon completion it would be better equipped and able to provide expanded services for up to 16 hours a day.
He further assured that, in addition to the construction of a fitness and recreation centre, work will begin this year on an outdoor volleyball court and a football ground. Highlighting Dharan’boodhoo’s history of producing outstanding athletes, he added that a running track would be developed alongside the football ground.
President Dr Muizzu also announced plans to construct a police station in Dharan’boodhoo, in line with the Administration’s commitment to expand policing services across all inhabited islands of the nation.
Addressing the issue of coastal erosion, the President stressed the need for comprehensive research and pledge to allocate funds for the project in next year’s budget. He affirmed that the project would be undertaken in close coordination with the relevant ministry and in consultation with the Council.
