President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has welcomed the election of the Republic of Maldives to serve as Vice-President of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for the remainder of 2025.
In this capacity, the Maldives will assume its responsibilities on behalf of the Asia-Pacific Group.
In a statement issued on X, the President stated that the Maldives has a proven track record in advocating for human rights related issues, especially in Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
Describing this achievement as a milestone, the President said that it reinforces Maldives’ continued dedication to upholding the principles of justice, equality, and human dignity, in line with the country’s strong commitment as an active UN HRC member.
He reiterated the Maldives’ resolve to work towards a more just and inclusive world for all.
