President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the renovated Izzuddin Jetty pays homage to Maldivian culture, heritage, craftsmanship, history and future. He made the remarks in his address at the ceremony held to inaugurate the Jetty following renovations and upgradation.
In his speech, the President said the Jetty was a vital aspect of the Administration’s national development policy of this Government, including building the idea of reviving national identity.
The renovated Jetty pays homage to the old jetties used during the tenures of former Presidents Al Ameer Mohamed Amin and Uz Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. A design motif also honours the last King of the Maldives, Sultan Muhammad Fareed Al-Awwal, Keerithi Mahaaradhun.
The President stated that Republic Square, Izzuddin Jetty, and Sultan Park were the biggest areas for the enjoyment of Male’ residents, sharing his vision for the development of the area.
President announced that Sultan Park will be redeveloped within the next six months. He emphasised that the new design of Sultan Park will allow today's generation to learn about our history in an engaging manner, utilising modern technology.
President further announced that Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) is set to begin road development from the MTCC Ferry Terminal to the MMA building by the end of Ramadan. The project will involve sheet piling, reclaiming part of the sea, and expanding the road to accommodate two lanes. The work is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
MTCC was awarded the contract a year ago to redesign and upgrade the bridge's main structure, as potential damage to the superstructure could pose risks to users.
