President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has restructured the responsibilities of various ministries following today’s Cabinet reshuffle, made under the authority granted by Article 116(a) of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives. The announcement was made in Directive 25/2024 from the President's Office.

According to the directive, the Ministry of Finance and Planning will now oversee land use, urban development, national development planning, and statistics—responsibilities that were previously managed by the Ministry of Housing, Land, and Urban Development. Additionally, the Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Infrastructure, formerly known as the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure, will now be responsible for formulating housing policies, including those related to social housing.

The President also announced that the Maldives Bureau of Statistics, which was previously under the Ministry of Housing, Land, and Urban Development, will now operate under the Ministry of Finance and Planning, effective immediately.

In line with these changes, all correspondence directed to the Ministry of Finance and Planning will now use the number 13, previously assigned to the Ministry of Finance. Similarly, all correspondence to the Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Infrastructure will use the number 491, which was formerly assigned to the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure.

The appointment letters were presented to the Cabinet Ministers at a ceremony held at the President’s Office on Thursday morning. After taking their oaths and signing the oath of office, the President met with the Ministers and urged them to structure the operations of the newly formed ministries in a way that minimises disruption for staff being transferred.
