President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that Wednesday, August 14, will be observed as a government holiday in response to the heavy rainfall forecast across the nation. The announcement was made by the President’s Office this evening.
The President’s decision follows a record amount of rainfall over the Maldives, resulting in significant flooding across the islands. The flooding has caused extensive damage to households, businesses, and personal property, severely disrupting daily life and transportation.
