Chairman of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress (NPC) and Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the 20th Communist Party of China Central Committee, H.E. Mr. Zhao Leji, paid a courtesy call on H.E. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu this morning at the Great Hall of People in Beijing, China.

The call was centred on the President and Chairman discussing further enhancement of the Maldives-China relationship, exploring new avenues for partnership, and strengthening existing bilateral cooperation.

Noting that the Maldives values its historical and friendly relations with China, President Dr Muizzu underscored the contributions made by China to the development of the Maldives over the years. The President further expressed his confidence in continued cooperation between the two countries in the future.

During the meeting, Chairman Zhao Leji discussed enhancing cooperation in culture, education, healthcare, and tourism. He expressed interest in cooperation in sports, arts and crafts. He additionally conveyed interest in working together in the multilateral arena in areas of mutual interest, such as climate change.

Chairman Zhao Leji reaffirmed to President Dr Muizzu of China’s commitment to further strengthening the close ties between the two nations.

The President and the First Lady are currently undertaking a state visit to the People's Republic of China at the invitation of H.E. Xi Jinping, the President of China. A high-level delegation is accompanying the President and the First Lady on this visit.
