President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has decided to establish a National Registry of Taxi Drivers, as advised by his Cabinet. The decision was made following deliberations on a paper submitted to the Cabinet by the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation on Sunday.

The decision is part of a series of measures to modernise and standardise the taxi service, which includes introducing a digital payment system, negotiating with banks to reduce transaction fees, and implementing a reporting mechanism for cash payments.

The Cabinet also discussed the long-term vision of enhancing the quality and efficiency of taxi services to meet international benchmarks. The decision also entailed formulating guidelines on the rights and responsibilities of the relevant stakeholders.
