Vice President Faisal Naseem affirmed on Wednesday the administration's unwavering dedication to advancing writers, stating that it recognises that writers play a crucial role in society, shaping narratives and sparking conversations that drive progress. Speaking at a ceremony at the Maldives National University (MNU) to unveil a collection of books published under the 'University Book Writing Grant,' the Vice President stated that the administration remains steadfast in its efforts to foster an environment conducive to the growth and development of these talented individuals.
Speaking at the event, the Vice President underscored the critical role of writing and literature in disseminating knowledge within societies. Vice President Naseem commended the university's initiative in successfully implementing the 'University Book Writing Grant,' which serves as a catalyst for academic writing. In his address, he highlighted the significance of the Dhivehi language, asserting that our mother tongue is a unique identifier of our identity. He also noted that three authors have already published their works this year, thanks to the 'University Book Writing Grant' funding.
After the ceremony, the Vice President inaugurated the 'MNU Book Fair 2023' and hosted a tour of the event at the university premises. The fair, which commenced today at the central campus of MNU, is scheduled to run until September 22, 2023. As a vibrant marketplace, it connects authors and booksellers with enthusiastic readers. The fair is a platform showcasing gifted local writers' multilingual work. This year's event is marked by the participation of 23 exhibitors, further enriching the literary landscape.
