President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has, this afternoon, met with the members of the North Maalhosmadulu Atoll Rasgetheemu Island Council and the Women's Development Committee (WDC). The members of the council expressed their gratitude to the administration for the success of numerous development initiatives that it had launched and carried out on the island.
Speaking during the meeting held at Rasgetheemu Kanbaidhi Maalam, the members of the Island Council detailed the most pertinent issues and urgent needs faced by the residents of the island. The shared concerns about the alterations that the community wishes to see in the harbour development project, as well as infrastructural shortages at the local school and Rasgetheemu Health Centre. They also noted that the need to develop a football field, ice plant and initiate ATM services within the island.
The WDC members expressed gratitude for the incumbent government's efforts in empowering women by facilitating more opportunities for women and granting legal empowerment.
The President, speaking at the meeting, asked councillors to make every effort to carry out their tasks and obligations under the decentralisation act. He appealed for full assistance for the administration's development projects carried out on the island. He also urged councillors to assist the WDC in carrying out their duties. The President further emphasised the importance of overseeing and carrying out community services and other initiatives using the powers granted to them by the decentralisation act. He revealed that the administration would raise the allowances for WDC members.
Rasgetheemu Island is the seventh destination of the President and First Lady’s ongoing three-day trip to North Miladhunmadulu Atoll and North Maalhosmadulu Atoll. Cabinet ministers, senior executives from the President’s Office and a delegation of high-level government officials accompany the President and First Lady on this trip.
