President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has called upon young athletes of the Maldives to make the best use of national sporting facilities and the opportunities provided to them through sports associations to strive for victory in international sporting events. He expressed these sentiments while delivering remarks at the official inauguration ceremony of two sports facilities at Hulhumalé Mini Sports Complex.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Solih stated that all athletes must embody ideal moral and spiritual standards. Describing the Administration’s policy on sports development in the country, the President said that priority lies in the development of sports infrastructure. He added that the Administration will assist sports associations and the athletes’ parents in their endeavour to facilitate local and international training and learning opportunities.
Speaking in this regard, he noted that the inauguration of the Table Tennis Hall and the National Martial Arts Centre is a golden opportunity for youth to engage in sports. President Solih highlighted that the inauguration of the National Martial Arts Centre marks the formation of a martial arts association in the Maldives. He added that athletes should strive to represent the Maldives at international sporting tournaments and bring pride to their country once the association gains official recognition.
During the ceremony, President Solih inaugurated the Table Tennis Hall and the National Martial Arts Centre located at Hulhumalé Mini Sports Complex and toured the facility. He was accompanied by the Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Ahmed Mahloof and senior officials from various sports associations.
