Vice President Faisal Naseem has held discussions with Senior Officials of Addu City Hospital and 07 members of Parliament representing Addu City. The discussions took place during an online meeting late last evening, with the key focus on the different difficulties being faced in the provision of medical facilities at Addu City during the COVID-19 crisis. The meeting also centred on the potential solutions for the problems raised.

Vice President Faisal Naseem individually clarified all obstacles and difficulties from the participants. In this regard, the Parliament Members highlighted the importance of initiating testing for COVID-19 at Addu City. They further noted that a swift solution is required for persons from Addu City who wish to travel regionally and internationally for medical attention and for easier acquisition and transportation of the different goods necessary for the different islands. They also noted the need to improve security services at the Addu City quarantine facilities.

Following his inquiries into the current situation at Addu City, Vice President Faisal Naseem said that all matters discussed would be looked into at the earliest and that NEOC (National Emergency Operations Centre) would facilitate the transport of goods to Addu City.

During the meeting, Health Minister Ameen gave his confidence that all islands in the Maldives have been provided with the medical implements necessary during this crisis. He detailed the obstacles being faced in executing COVID-19 testing in different regions in the country and the work being undertaken by the Government to overcome these obstacles. Minister Ameen also underscored the high priority the Government is placing on developing human resources, noting that numerous Doctors and Nurses were going through online training even now. Minister Ameen also called on all members of the public to provide any help they can during this crisis and to contact NEOC should they wish to provide any aid, support or help.

Vice President Faisal Naseem concluded the meeting with his assurances that the problems, obstacles and difficulties being faced by Addu City Hospital would be resolved at the earliest with the full cooperation of all government agencies involved.
