President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has today established the Maldives National Territory & Sovereignty Office.
Established within the President's Office, the Office has been mandated to define the territorial boundaries of the Maldives and to conduct research and oversight on matters related to the country's territory in a sustainable manner. The President announced the decision to establish the office during the Presidential Address to the People's Majlis on 5 February this year.
The responsibilities of the Maldives National Territory & Sovereignty Office include taking the lead in coordinating with relevant Government agencies and international parties to resolve boundary-related disputes. Furthermore, it is tasked with determining the coordinates of the Maldives' official baselines and boundary limits, as well as providing boundary maps and related instruments.
The President's Office is currently undertaking administrative arrangements and recruitment processes to facilitate the commencement of operations.
