President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has today sent a message of condolence addressed to the Crown Prince of Kuwait, His Highness Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, following the passing of the late Emir of the State of Kuwait, His Highness Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah.

The President expressed that he was deeply saddened by this loss to the Kuwaiti people and Government, and to the al Sabah family in particular. He praised the late Emir as an accomplished statemen and diplomat of high standing, recognized internationally for the leading role he played during his lifetime in resolving regional tensions and settling disputes. He also acknowledged His Highness as a great friend to the Maldives, who took several initiatives to provide our country with generous assistance and development cooperation, for which our entire nation owes him a debt of gratitude.

As a show of respect and solidarity the Maldivian flag will be flown at half mast in honour of the late Amir, His Highness, Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah.
