President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has ratified the Fifth Amendment to the Local Council Elections Act (Act no. 10/2010), which amends Article18 of the act. Parliament passed the amendment bill at the 17th sitting of its first session held on Tuesday, 10th March 2020.
The amendment states that in addition to the votes deemed invalid under Section 56 of the General Act on Elections, votes cast for more candidates than the allocated number of candidates to be elected for that elective area in the Local council Election shall be deemed as an invalid vote.
Upon ratification, the Act has been published on the Government’s Gazette.
