President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that the current Administration will not neglect other sports at the cost of developing only popular sports. The President made these remarks this morning during a meeting with the medalists from Maldivian athletics team and Table Tennis team in the South Asian Games 2019. The meeting took place at the President's Office.

Speaking at the meeting, the President noted with pride that this is the first time in this country's sporting history that a Maldivian national achieved a Gold Medal from South Asian Games. He cited this as proof that winning the Gold at large international sporting events such as these doesn't require teams to belong to a large country, but rather careful planning and reliable facilities.

Acknowledging the positive increase of women's involvement in sports activities, the President assured that the government will not tolerate any kind of gender bias or discrimination, and all athletes will have equal opportunities based on performance and merit. He also noted that current administration affords high precedence to improving the sports sector due to the high societal benefits.

The meeting was accompanied by the Vice President Faisal Naseem and Senior officials of the Government.
