President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has met Maamigili Island Council of South Ari Atoll this afternoon at the President’s Office.

During the meeting, the Councillors shared information about the most pressing issues faced by the residents of the island. They highlighted the need for improved healthcare services, alleviate difficulties faced due to road conditions, ways to best utilise the community centre and plans to expand policing services on the island. The Councillors also discussed ways to improve the socio-economic situation of the island.

Speaking during the meeting, President Solih shared information about the Administration’s proposed amendments to the Decentralisation Act with the Councillors. He highlighted that fiscal and legal autonomy is essential to improve service delivery and better equip local councils to address the issues faced by its constituents. The President also stated that the Administration would work with line ministries to address the concerns raised by the Councillors.
