The new Indian High Commissioner Mr D. M. Mulay has paid a courtesy call on Vice President Dr Mohamed Waheed. Speaking at the meeting held at the President’s Office today, the Vice President and Mr Mulay discussed ways of strengthening the close bilateral relations that exist between the two countries, especially in the area of trade and economy.
Vice President Dr Waheed said that the Maldives would welcome Indian investors and the Government had been working to inform Indian investors of investment opportunities in the Maldives.
Mr Mulay assured the Vice President that he would work to facilitate more Indian investments in the Maldives and introduce Maldives to Indian investors and businesses.
At today’s meeting Vice President Dr Waheed asked for Indian assistance in providing rehabilitation services for drug addicts. Mr Mulay assured the Vice President that India is prepared to provide assistance and share its experience with the Maldives in this regard.
Vice President Dr Waheed and Mr Mulay also discussed ways of providing support for education, health and social sectors in the Maldives.
