President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim have attended the special function held this evening on the occasion of the 53rd Independence Day of the Maldives. The function was held at the Galolhu Stadium.
Upon their arrival, the President and First Lady were received by Minister of Home Affairs Azleen Ahmed and his spouse.
The President was offered a presidential salute by the Maldives National Defence Force, following which the combined ensemble of the School bands and the Maldives National Defence Force played the National Anthem. The Armed Forces Guard then trooped past the Presidential Stand.
Cultural and musical performances were displayed at the function by Galolhu School, Ghiyasuddin International School, Jamaluddin School, Majeedhiyya School, Imaduddin School, Center for Higher Secondary Education, Ahmadhiyya International School, and the Maldives National Defence Force.
