Today, the Cabinet deliberated on adopting a national energy policy and strategy.

The Cabinet discussed a paper submitted by the Ministry of Housing and Environment on the issue, and noted the need to set out concrete policies and strategies for the development of the energy sector towards achieving government’s goal of carbon neutrality.

They also noted the importance of providing reliable, affordable and sustainable energy.

The Maldives is entirely dependent on imports of fossil fuels to meet its energy needs. A national energy policy and strategy will pave the way to increase renewable and other low carbon technologies in the country.
